StayIndie.com Artist FAQ
Q. I am an Indie band, artist, or label. How do I get a profile on StayIndie.com?
A. To be considered for an artist profile on StayIndie.com, contact us with a sample of your music and what you would consider important information. Links to your own website, EPK, or to another online profile are good to include.
Q. How do I edit my profile?
A. Once you're logged in to your account, go to your artist control panel. Cliek "profile" and the click "profile info." This will allow you to edit your profile information, change your main profile image, and edit certain profile settings.
Q. Why don't I see the changes that I made to my profile?
A. There are two things that you might need to do. First, try emptying your browsers cache and refreshing the page. Second, go to your control panel and click "profile" and "rebuild profile". This will refresh your profile settings in our system. If neither of these work, contact us for help.
Q. I lost my account username and/or password. How do I reset it?
A. If you've lost your password, click the button that says “Forgot” in the log-in area. Then, enter the e-mail address that is linked to your account. A new password will be sent to that e-mail address. If you have forgotten your username or which e-mail address you have linked to your account, contact us for help.
Q. Why isn't the Twitter feed working on my profile?
A. First, make sure that you have checked the option (in your StayIndie.com artist account information) to include your Twitter feed on your profile. Second, make sure that you entered your Twitter RSS feed URL correctly. To double check, go to your Twitter profile page, then click the link in the right menu bar that says "RSS feed of (your name's) Tweets". When you get to this page, copy and paste the link from your browser's address bar that begins with "feed://...." and ends with".rss". You will paste this into the "Twitter URL" section of your band or artist account information page. Finally, replace the part that says "feed://" with "http://". For example, the RSS feed URL for StayIndie's Tweets, from Twitter.com, is this: feed://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/83908243.rss. We would paste it on our StayIndie.com artist account info. page as this: http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/83908243.rss.
Q. How do I upload single songs to my profile?
A. In your artist control panel, click "songs", under your "artist menu". Then click "create song". There you can upload any single song, any relevant information about the song, and an image to appear next to it on your profile's music player and in the list of songs on your profile.
Q. How do I sell single songs on my profile?
A. To make music available for digital download, you must add it to the "vault". This can be done one of three ways:
If you have already uploaded a single song, go to "songs", then click "modify song". There, you can choose the song you'd like to make available for digital download. Once you've selected the song and are on the "modify song information" page, scroll down to the section that says “vault file”. Next to "new vault file," choose the song to upload for sale. Then enter any other information you'd like about the song and set your selling price in US Dollars. For example, if you're selling the song for $0.99, enter .99 in the "price" box.
If you have not yet uploaded the song(s), simply follow the steps that you would for adding the song to your music player and complete the Vault File section of the Create A Song page.
The third option is to click "vault" in your artist control panel, then click "create item" and go from there.
Q. How do I sell full, digital EPs and albums from my profile?
A. To make an entire EP or album available for download at one time (instead of as single songs only), simply create a .zip file with all of the songs. You will add this to your vault. Upload the .zip file and name the item after the album or EP. It may also be a good idea to include “Full EP” or “Full Album” in the name (for example, “Our Awesome Tunes” - Full Album).
Q. How do I sell merchandise hard copies of my music from my profile?
A. Under your artist menu, click "store" then click "create item". Here, you can enter all of the information and an image for the hard copy EP, album, vinyl, etc. You'll enter an "item email" to which a notification will be sent once a purchas is made. It is up to you, or to whomever the email is directed, to ship the album to the consumer. Under the "price" box, where you will enter the item's selling price, there will be a box to enter a handling charge. You have the option of adding a handling charge to cover shipping costs, etc.
Q. How do I sell tickets on my profile?
A. Add tickets to your store just as you would add merchandise. For tickets, there is also the option of adding them to an "event listing" in your calendar. To do this, you will go to your calendar, then click "create event" (or "modify event", if you have already added the event to your calendar). Then, scroll down, under the section where you add the event information, to the "vault file" section. Here, you can enter the ticket information, a picture of the ticket, and set the tickets price. When a ticket is purchased, a notification email will be sent to the email address on file with the artist/band account. Remember, just as with selling other merchandise and hard copies of music, it is your responsibility to ship the ticket to the consumer once it is ordered.
Q. Can I use promotional codes to offer fans free or discounted downloads?
A. Yes! Under your artist menu, click "tools" then click "promo code"s. On this page, you will enter all of the necessary information and select which song the code applies to. You also have the option of limiting the number of times the promotional code can be used.
Q. How do I keep track of my sales?
A. At any time, you can find out what you're selling. Under your artist menu, click "profile", then "statistics", and then "sales stats".
Q. When and how will I be paid for music and merchandise sales?
A. At the end of each business quarter, StayIndie will mail you a check for anything you have sold. You may also request payment before the quarter ends, should you desire. We can also pay you via PayPal, if you have a PayPal account. Contact Sarah (Sarah@StayIndie.com) with these requests.
